Welcome to “SUPER” Citadel !
Citadel Middle School provides a positive, caring learning environment that emphasizes high academic standards, encourages and provides opportunity for student growth through a wide variety of curriculum experiences and school activities, and supports students in terms of developing personal responsibility for all their work and behaviour. The entire staff commits itself to this overriding philosophy, and dedicates their working and personal time to ensure it becomes a reality. As such, I am proud to be Principal here.
In the 2011-2012 school year, we will work diligently to attain the goals set out in our School Improvement Plan. Specifically, we will target literacy [reading comprehension (by devoting a great degree of time, planning, and resources, strategic to these areas. We want to track and see improvement over the course of the year, but of course, all our teaching efforts will not be exclusive to these goals.
Good schools always focus on specific outcomes for student achievement; however, in that pursuit, they also must not lose sight of the fact that the mandate for public education is to focus on, and to celebrate ALL students and ALL achievements. Our responsibility is to help create well-rounded, stable individuals, who will be productive members of society, and continue to want to learn about the world around them. A focused, but balanced, approach is crucial in order to create a meaningful learning environment for your children.
You as parents, and members of the community, are crucial partners in our mandate. I encourage you to establish open, honest dialogue about the learning needs for your children with teachers, counselors and administrators at Citadel. High parental and community expectations with regards to school is one of the greatest indicators of student success and student well being while at school. Dinner–time conversations about how the school day went, regularly scheduled homework times at home, and continuous contact with you child’s teachers, are just some of the ways to make school an important part of you child’s life at home. Together we can make a great difference in your child’s education!
Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any specific questions about what is happening in the classroom, or you can contact me, if you just want to talk about the school, or even education, in general. I welcome your calls or emails.
Sincerely
Mrs. Glenda Speight
