Hello,
I am part of Nestor’s history in that I taught here for my first year as a teacher. However, just like friends and family, things change. The school looks quite different than I remember and I got lost trying to find my way here for the first time. New roads and buildings seem to have popped up everywhere. I couldn’t even find the old staff room! There have also been changes in my life since I was here 15 years ago. After teaching at Kwayhquitlum Middle School, I moved to Hillcrest Middle School. At these schools, I taught all core subjects in Grades 6 and 7 and Humanities and French at the Grade 8 Level. In addition, I directed the bands and choirs at both schools. I served as Vice Principal at Hillcrest Middle School for two years and Principal at Anmore Elementary School for three years and taught Music, Library and Computers.
I have played the drums since I could crawl and completed my music degree and graduate studies at U.B.C. My Master of Arts thesis looked at whether or not students involved in music are better able to be socially responsible – my research said: “Yes!” I am married with two terrific children aged 17 and 10. I love to learn, run, read, cook and play in a band.
It is wonderful to be back in this Learning Community!
