Dear Glen Parents/Guardians,

‘Each child is a gift entrusted to us by her/his family.’

Dear Glen Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to the 2009/2010 school year at École Glen Elementary School!

Mrs. Denton and I would especially like to welcome all new families who are attending our wonderful school.

The staff is very excited about the wonderful possibilities and opportunities the year ahead holds for each and every student. The entire staff feel honored and privileged to be given the responsibility to serve the Glen students, staff, families and community.

We are all very excited about two major events this school year. Firstly, we look forward to moving into our new school this Fall (hopefully, by the end of November). Secondly, we look forward to the 2010 Vancouver/Whistler Winter Olympics.

We will endeavor to keep you apprised of the many activities and events on our École Glen Learning Portal. The staff and I are excited to use this wonderful tool in order to make communication with our Glen families more effective and efficient. Our École Glen Elementary School Learning Portal will bring you news about our school, upcoming events, and a direct link to your child’s classroom portal and much more. Please visit our Glen website at: http://www.sd43.bc.ca/elementary/glen/Pages/default.aspx

In addition, we will continue to focus on our goal of Literacy outlined in our Action Plan for Learning.

Specifically, our goal is to increase the level of reading comprehension for each and every student.

Mrs. Denton and I would like to encourage all of you to play an active role in the school lives of your children.        Research consistently shows that there is a direct positive correlation between parent involvement with  student achievement and a child’s self-esteem. It is understood that not every parent can give their time at the school.

However, every parent can spend time at home asking about their child’s day at school, reading to or with their child, listening to their child read, or playing with their child, to name a few. Another way to involve yourself is to attend our Parent Advisory Council (PAC) meetings. We will publish the meeting dates in the next newsletter scheduled to go home at the end of the week.

The staff and I operate on an ‘open door’ policy. I encourage you to communicate with your child’s teacher if you have any questions or concerns relating to your child’s academic, social, behavioural and/or emotional well-being.

In closing, we look forward to getting to know and serving the staff, students, families and community of École Glen Elementary School!

Sincerely,

Mr. D. Passaglia                  Mrs. C. Denton
