Now open to Foundations students Level 5-7!

Oct. 12 to Dec. 7, 2016 (excluding Halloween) =  48hrs. + 3.3 hr. field trip

Mon. and Wed. 6:00-9:00pm (3 hrs x 16 classes)

Gleneagle Secondary School (computer lab access 1/week)

Cost:  $25 materials fee

What you will learn:

Goal setting:  Prior experience, self-assessment, personality, employability skills, career quiz

Workplace culture: Professional behavior and expectations, rights, benefits, Canadian work environment

No Canadian Experience: Stressors, motivation, perseverance, volunteering, survival jobs

Exploring other options:  Internships, co-op, mentoring, temping, apprenticeship, recruiters

Resume writing 1:  Guest speaker: prepare, format, different sections, editing, what to omit

Resume writing 2:  Creating and adapting resume, keywords, distribution methods to right person

Cover letter/email:  Structure, selling yourself, personality traits, transferable skills, keywords, samples

Social Media Networking: Google, your social media profile, LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, other

Job Search 1:  Visible job market: survival jobs, job banks, job fairs, agencies, newspapers, Craigslist

Job Search 2:  Hidden job market: finding employers, cold calling, networking, what to do if it's not working

Interviews 1:  Research before, what to wear/do/say, types of interviews, checklist, FAQs + answers

Interviews 2:  Behavior, illegal or tough questions, expressing yourself clearly, mock interviews

Job Offer Process:  Negotiating/researching salary and benefits, accepting/rejecting offers

Telephone Tips:   Telephone interview, business call etiquette, leaving/taking messages

Entrepreneurship/Starting your own business: Ideas, marketing, legal requirements, benefits/challenges

Soft Skills:  Presentations, organizing meetings, dealing with co-workers/bosses, communication, leadership
