Centennial Secondary School Construction Update:

In January 2010, the Ministry of Education announced the replacement of Centennial Secondary School. 

Graham, Hoffart, Mathiasen Architects have been awarded the contract for the design of the new Centennial Secondary School and will begin the initial design phase in March 2011 with a completion of the design projected for the Summer of 2012

Centennial Secondary School will be rebuilt on the current site.  The new facility will be built to for a capacity of 1250 students with expansion designed into the plans.  To facilitate the operation of the school during the construction phase, the replacement school will be built opposite the current facility, which much remain in operation during the construction.  Therefore, the construction will occur in a phased process.

The tentative construction start timeline is for Summer/Fall of 2012.  The projected completion for the building  is for the Fall of 2014/Spring 2015. 

The Neighbourhood Learning Centre Space has been approved by the Ministry of Education.  The NLC portion of the project will begin in late 2014 early 2015 with a projected completion in the Fall 2015.  The NLC will offer services that support the school and community.  Currently, SD 43 staff are working to develop services in the areas of supporting new Canadians, Youth and Community support with Trades Support and Employment programming, and Community Recreational Activities.  We are currently working with Simon Fraser University, BCIT, Fraser/Coastal Health, Ministry for Children and Family Development and the City of Coquitlam to help shape these service offerings.
