Learning for a Lifetime
Young Parent Program

The YPP program is housed at CABE Secondary School and supports pregnant or parenting youth.   Students who participate in the program work closely with the YPP Support Worker and are able to access the onsite YMCA Little Scholars Day Care.  The YPP Support Worker provides life skills training and mentoring to the young parents and their families, and is able to connect young parents to other support programs in the community.  Students learn skills in child care, household management and parenting while also completing graduation requirements.  The supports available at CABE ensure that young parents are able to continue their education while also learning crucial parenting and child rearing skills.  While most young parents opt to attend CABE in order to access all of the supports onsite, in some cases students are able to attend their home school and access some of the YPP supports on an outreach basis.

The Young Parent Program provides youth who have become parents an opportunity to further their education and enhance their parenting capacity in a supportive environment.  The goal of this program is to provide a multitude of additional supports which augment healthy adolescent development, enhance infant, toddler and child development, build parenting capacity, and support life-long learning and education.
