Irvine students give Minister a lesson in coding!

February 02, 2018

On Tuesday, January 30th, the Minister of Education and other special guests from the Ministry and School District came to Irvine to announce the funding for a new Irvine Elementary.

They also highlighted the amazing work being done with technology at Irvine Elementary. Five of our students, Matthew Harford; Shea Hynes; Jack Hoegler; Flynn Luterbach; and Kayla Stewart, presented their coding projects with Micro:bits. They shared how they coded on tablets and laptops as part of Irvine's Bring Your Own Device Program.

This code was then transfered to their Micro:bits, a piece of technology that Irvine students piloted for the school district last year. This allowed them to show off their projects including a rock, paper, scissors game; a compass; a cardboard "robot" with facial expressions; and hacked headphones playing music created by the students.
